The Desert
This dj mix takes you on a relaxing and contemplative journey through the sounds of the east. Images of the Bedouin traveling through the desert or the Sufi’s spinning in grace. This mix is a favorite of listeners and has many of the classic ambient tunes I played in the chill rooms/areas.
The Mystic
This dj mix is intended for bodywork, meditation, relaxation, ritual, and yoga. It combines elements of traditional Indian music with electronic ambient soundscapes. This dj mix was inspired to create a auditory space for introspection and spiritual awakening (although I listen during reading or writing).
The Jihadist
This mix encapsulates the distorted and abstract electronic sounds that incorporate traditional Arabic instrumentation. This is a political and spiritual journey that interrogates Jihad and attendant physical violence.
The Harem
This Arabic/South Asian downtempo/trip hop mix is one of my favorites and a highlight of all my Orientalist mixes. Finely tuned lounge and downtempo tracks that encapsulate the sexy sound I brought to clubs and chill rooms.
The Corpse Pose (Savasana)
Yoga practice is a form of ritual. An intelligent yoga practice will furnish the nervous system with a host of new neuromuscular information. Shavasana gives the nervous system a chance to integrate that in what can be thought of as a brief pause before it is forced once again to deal with all the…
The Ashram
This mix was inspired by a Vipassana meditation retreat (Dec, 2016) and will be the last Orientalism mix. The general theme is the ashram visitation. The spiritual journey of returning to the ashram with all its imaginations as a spiritual place where all things will come together and samadhi is reached. Musically, we have…
The Temple
This mix highlights traditional Indian instruments and vocals with drum and bass eventually transitioning to slower beats highlighting traditional Indian female vocalists. This mix was made to document some of my favorite drum and bass tracks as well as solid traditional Indian downtempo tracks from back in the day.
Outernational Sounds
This mix was recorded live at some random warehouse party. This set is more indicative of my dance oriented sets – funky, fun, and steeped in Latin America, Arabic, and South Asian influences.
